More than one third of the American population still believes that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election legitimately, according to a new poll.
The survey, conducted by Rasmussen Reports, found that 34% of respondents think Biden won fair and square. Thirty-three percent believe he didn’t win legitimately, while 33% are undecided.
This lack of confidence in the legitimacy of Biden’s victory is likely due in part to Donald Trump’s relentless claims that the election was “rigged” and full of voter fraud. Although there has been no evidence to support these claims, they seem to have taken root in the minds of many Americans.
So, although Biden has technically won the election, it seems that many Americans are still not convinced that he did so fairly. This could create some challenges for him as he tries to govern over the next four years.
Questioning Biden’s Victory
As mentioned, one of the reasons that some Americans are hesitant to believe that Biden won legitimately is because Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that the election was “rigged” and full of voter fraud. Although there has been no evidence to support these claims, they seem to have taken root in the minds of many Americans.
This lack of confidence in the legitimacy of Biden’s victory could create some challenges for him as he tries to govern over the next four years. For one thing, it could make it difficult for him to get cooperation from Republicans in Congress. After all, if they don’t believe that he won fairly, why would they work with him on anything?
It could also lead to more protests and violence, as we’ve seen in the wake of Trump’s election. Some people may feel that they need to take matters into their own hands if they don’t believe that Biden is the legitimate president.
In short, although Biden has technically won the election, there are still some challenges that he will face as he tries to govern over the next four years. We’ll just have to wait and see how things play out.
The population who doesn’t accept Trump as president
The survey also asked respondents whether they thought Trump was a legitimate president and found that only 49% said he was. This is compared to 68% who thought Barack Obama was a legitimate president in 2009 and 61% who thought Trump was legitimate in 2017.
This means that there is a significant portion of the population who does not accept Trump as a legitimate president. This could make it difficult for him to govern effectively over the next four years.
