Doug Burr has been quietly turning heads in Denton Texas for a while now, scooping up regional awards and nominations (Dallas Music, Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News) as well as critical acclaim from countless national and international publications. “I wanted to make a record of Psalms music for a long time, since about 2003,” says Burr about The Shawl, his new work recorded at Texas Hall in the pastoral town of Tehuacana, TX, and slated for release early 2009. Nashville-based Disappointed By Candy was formed in May 2003 by two classically-trained percussionists, Gabe Ruschival and Jeremy Lutito. DBC operates as a full-fledged trio, utilizing sampling and programming as they fly around the stage, and often even switch instruments mid-song.
